![]() ![]() ![]() This is because when you play on LAN rate is ignored and it uses sv_lan_rate instead, and by default, yes you guessed it, it is set to the maximum - 20000. When you play on LAN rate does nothing at all, in fact you could have rate set to 100 and it would have no effect on LAN. People also say "rate 25000 is for LAN and 20000 is for online", wrong again. Half-Life 1/CS actually has a maximum rate of 20000, it has been proven many times and setting your rate to 25000 is pointless. This is why today most players use a rate of 25000. Quake has rates too! And in fact the max rate on Quake is 25000. Quake, the game engine that was used to make Half-Life and in turn CS was created using the same engine. ![]() First we will start off with a quick history lesson. Ah rate, the setting that is set wrong by 95% of people who don’t have a clue and just copy everyone else. ![]()

If the hard drive were to fail would it be better to have it replaced rather than use an external drive (that I could move between Macs)? ![]() ![]() I just ran an Etrecheck report on it & it says the hard drive appears to be failing, which says I have a more serious problem than it just being annoyingly slow. He said it might also be possible to replace the internal drive with an SSD depending on what 2017 model it is. Is it more complicated than I think to run the Mac off an external drive? It doesn't seem that complicated to me to download the OS onto another drive & make that the startup drive, so I am not sure what he meant. I've been thinking that maybe I could get an external SSD and use that as the startup drive instead of the inernal drive but the guy in the local mac shop told me this would be difficult to do unless I knew what I was doing and expensive ($850Aus). it has always been slow and I've put it down to not getting an SSD when I bought it. "Hard drive appears to be failing" - what are my options I have had this iMac for just over 3 years (2017 21 inch, 4K). ![]() ![]() ![]() IDatabase is the best there is for those who want to manage, store and quickly find any information for their passions and for everyday work.
